Dogs are just like people when it comes to social anxiety and being in a new environment can make them anxious and or depressed. Working on auto sit with Ranger! Note, this is incredibly challenging for him because he gets distracted very easily outside. This was first done inside and then the back yard, then the front yard. I am not cuing him to sit, rather just waiting for him to sit on his own and make his own decisions. Treats won't work with him outside most of the time because he gets too distracted so I give words of praise, marker word, and a cheek rub. This was not a day of work, this was a few days of consistent training and rewarding and taking things slow. Every dog is different and can be taught this but the length of time to learn such skill depends on many factors.
